Our Library Series Returns!

Santa Monica Rep is beyond excited to announce that our playreading series - in partnership with the Santa Monica Library - is back in 2025!

This long-standing collaboration (which has always been free and open to the public) was the first offering Santa Monica Rep ever made to our audience back in 2010. It’s where we began our tradition of hosting talkbacks after each performance, and it’s where we first came together as a company and theatrical community.

Play Summary: "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros is a coming-of-age story told through a series of vignettes, exploring the life of Esperanza Cordero, a young Chicana girl growing up in a Chicago Latino neighborhood. The novel follows Esperanza's journey as she navigates the harsh realities and beauty of her community, her family, and her own aspirations. Santa Monica Rep is casting this adaptation for the stage by Amy Ludwig with young people from the Santa Monica community in a shared experience centering young voices in this exploration of home.

There is no experience necessary. All who are cast must have parental or guardian permission to participate. Please fill out an Audition Form. Looking forward to seeing you on Monday June 9th at 4:30pm!

We hope we can count on your support as we look ahead to continuing this powerful series in 2025. We can’t wait to celebrate Santa Monica Rep’s 15th year of creating engaging, challenging, funny, topical theatre. We have an exciting slate of projects, including a new, hyper-local play about a Santa Monica family by our very own Artistic Director, Tanya White.

And while we know that there are many worthwhile organizations seeking your support, we hope you’ll continue to show how much you value live, local theatre. We can’t do it without you, and we can't wait to see you in 2025!
